Covenant Senior Pastor makes history at PNBC MWR...

Bro. Aristide Smith, Jr., "1st G" introducing Pastor Chris
Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018 marked a historic moment in the life of the Progressive National Baptist Midwest Region Convention. During it's 55th Annual Session, held in Indianapolis, Indiana, Pastor Chris Smith was the first woman in the PNBC MWR history to preach the opening session! This particular time is set aside for the previous year's host to preach. Since Pastor Smith hosted the PNBC MWR the prior year (also historic - a woman had never HOSTED the convention), she was slated for this honor. Her sermon subject was, "Who Was Malchus?" taken from Luke 22: 47-53; John 18: 4-11. Her message focused upon the little known slave of the high priest who after having his ear cut off was healed by Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Only one of the Gospels mentions his name which being interpreted means, "King." The name given to him, most probably by his mother may have been a reminder to him that his present condition did not dictate the essence of his being. Though called, "slave," he had another name!
