"Healthy Temples: Supporting Healthy Minds, Bodies and Spirits," A Phenomenal Event!!!
Monday, June 12th - Wednesday, June 14th, 2017, Covenant Baptist Church in collaboration with St. John of the Cross Parish, churches throughout the Euclid area ("Faith in the City" Ecumenical Faith Group), and representatives from the Cleveland Clinic presented, "Healthy Temples: Supporting Healthy Minds, Bodies and Spirits!" Each night various topics were covered including depression, the Daniel Plan and healthy living, overall health and wellness, free blood pressure screenings and healthy snacks for all! Lessons, "rap sessions," games, crafts etc., for children and youth were also included. Our 1st night was outstanding! Cleveland Clinic Staff Chaplain, Rev. Brian Shield's presentation on Depression was transparent, engaging, powerful and compelling! The class became so involved that it was difficult to end the session! A follow up workshop was repeatedly requested by the participants! Plans underway to make that happen - stay tuned!!!
Tuesday night featured Cleveland Clinic Dietitian, Brigid Titgemeier, RD. She engaged and intrigued us with her presentation on healthy eating patterns, considering the colors on our plates (green, yellow, red, purple, brown...) when making choices of veggies, various resources to help us plan our meals, foods that can assist in reducing hypertension and elements of the Daniel Plan, faith, friends, food, focus and fitness. She challenged us by saying, "You are only 20-30% of your genes. The rest you can control..."
Wednesday, Covenant's own Associate Minister, Minister Kathryn Johnson gave us a presentation, tying together all we've studied this week from the topic, "From Chaos to Harmony." She spoke with us about "The Five R’s” to reduce the effects of negative stress. Using Biblical principles, We learned about “The Five R’s”: Relaxation, Reflection, Release, Rejuvenation and Restoration as a means of learning to rely on God to help us develop ways to make the negative stressors in our lives manageable.
Nurses from the Cleveland Clinic were also on sight to offer blood pressure checks. The impact of what was done this past week cannot be measured with numbers alone. Lives were positively influenced. Encouragement and hope was given. It is not an over statement to say that someone's life may even have been saved due to these offerings!
To God be the glory for the GREAT THINGS He has done!!!
